Paw .29ds

Does anyone here have any experience with the PAW .29DS diesel engine?

Re: Paw .29ds

Unfortunately, PAW is a brand that was never been introduced in Romania. I think none of us can help you regarding this particular engine, but...what is the problem? Can we talk about it as a general behavior or it is a PAW one?

Re: Paw .29ds

The engine I have doesn't seem to have a lot of power. I'm told the TBR versions have more power. Also it is unsuitable as a C/L engine when mounted upright.

Re: Paw .29ds

On the bench test, same problems?...maybe it have some problems with the tank ore fuel lines.
The engine is starting fast, cold and hot too?

Re: Paw .29ds

i have one too wink
the TBR (speed / racing version) runs with lower castor oil percentage (15% as I know). the rest come 50% gas, 32.5% ether, 2.5% IPN.

Sorin, not gas. It is kerosene or paraphine. The IPN, DII, TEL or other diesel additives (amil nitrites or amil nitrates) are not so magic as nitomethane for glow engines. If you are using nitro, the performance is increasing with nitro percentage. For diesel additives, after 2 or 2.5 percents, there is no improvement. So, not the additive is the magic word for diesel.
I am sure that Phil use recommended fuel and propeller for PAW, so I believe the problem consisting in a different reason, not the fuel.
I am curious if there are differents between flight running and bench test (it is strange: "Also it is unsuitable as a C/L engine when mounted upright."). It is a good start to compare. I think it is a fueling problem...just my 50 cents.

Re: Paw .29ds

The spraybar placement in the stock venturi makes it useless for C/L flying with upright engine. When it goes inverted, it goes dead rich. I modified it which helped some. I'm told they only worked sidemounted. This is my 29DS without silencer and with modified venturi.

Re: Paw .29ds

I use the fuel formula given by PAW, equal parts ether, castor, and kerosene, in my case, bus fuel.

Re: Paw .29ds

Yes, except Enya, most of them are OS, MVVS, Super Tigre, ASP, MAGNUM, Tunder Tiger, Hornet (and few gasoline brands like 3W, DA and chinese engines, for radio control flying). Did I missed something, guys?
Later Edit: MAGNUM here are made in China..not the american stuff.

The only Magnum I know of is Chinese, the only Hornet I know of is a copy of the American McCoy 60, also American.
