Fronkensteen 3 Lives

The plane to be known as Fronkensteen 3 is in final assembly. It uses the wing from 2, and the third of 3 custom profile fuselages I have put together. The landing gear is longer and placed forward of 2 for better landings. The rudder is a section of one from an R/C wreck.

Re: Fronkensteen 3 Lives

I think I have a major problem. When I bought the paint for Fronkensteen, I must not have been paying attention. The Rustoleum I bought turned out to be water based latex paint. This stuff can't be fuel resistant. Would it work if I put a coat of clear regular polyurethane over it?

Re: Fronkensteen 3 Lives

If you have no choise, could be a solution, but it's become heavy. If I will be in your place, I will no cry for that old monocote or what is it....just change it! You will no need to paint the new film, just choose the right color. wink
Just think about this: you have to fix something on the wing: are you intending to use the hot iron on that paint?...or if it's works, what is the next step, to repaint again the fixed part?! NEAAAH

Re: Fronkensteen 3 Lives

I have no intention of painting the whole wing, just the wing root area to match the fuselage, then a stripe of monokote front to rear where the monokote from the wing ends.

Flew it today. Too fast, too much pull, needs control trim.

Re: Fronkensteen 3 Lives

Looking good grin

too much pull? check the rudder angle or the engine mounting angle grin
Anyway, I thought that more pull from the plane is a good thing, especially for an acrobatic model smile

Not when it wants to pull you over. I put a Brodak 40 in place of the LA 46 and removed the engine offset. That helped some. I need to pull the CG back a little more. I need to find out why it hunts and cure that.

Re: Fronkensteen 3 Lives

It spans about 56" and weighs a ton. It hunts, that means it won't fly level. It wants to climb and dive on its own. Yet, it is not sensitive to the controls.

Re: Fronkensteen 3 Lives

In an effort to stop the hunting, I reduced the elevator throw. I planted it inverted in the reverse wingover. Broke the fuselage aft of the wing.

Re: Fronkensteen 3 Lives

I finally decided to look at the wreckage. As usual, the damage is not as bad as it seemed. I should be able to repair the fuselage. The real trick is figuring out why it hunted in the first place. The stab is history. I need to find/repair/make another one.

Re: Fronkensteen 3 Lives

I've got this thing back together less rudder for a test flight to see if the changes I made help or hurt. We'll soon see.

Re: Fronkensteen 3 Lives

Fronkensteen has a new small rudder and a linkage adjustment and will be ready for another test flight soon.

Re: Fronkensteen 3 Lives

Another test flight, another crash, another broken fuselage.
